Asked and Answered
I am purchasing an apartment with extensive landscaping on the terrace. Can the co-op or condo make me remove landscaping that was existing at the time of my purchase?Yes. Landscaping on a terrace, particularly large trees and bushes, can create drainage problems and rot issues for the roof membrane on which a terrace may be located. There are also load bearing issues depending upon the size of the plantings. Many buildings have created rules about the size of plantings and irrigation. If your apartment has an extensive landscaping amenity, inquiry should be made to make sure that your greenery will remain in place after the closing.
