The managing agent has had our application to purchase a cooperative apartment for three weeks and nothing has happened. Is there anything we can do to move things forward?Probably not. Each managing agent and each Board of Directors handles the purchase process a little differently from the next guy. Some managing agents are quite responsive and others don’t get that when a phone rings someone is actually supposed to answer. It can be quite frustrating. The party with the most standing to complain is the seller. That being said, brokers are always nervous that if a buyer complains too much, it will negatively influence the Board’s decision (of course, with condos it’s a different story, since the Board can’t really turn anyone down). The sad truth is that the process is awkward and time consuming and in some cases, downright inexplicable. Once you decide to purchase a co-op, accept that the application process will be tedious and frustrating, but it will come to an end…eventually.
